Jackie Isler

Helen Balmat Gorman was born in 1893 and died 1983 in Watertown, NY.
She was descended from French settlers of New York State. She was an active civic leader devoted to the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), her church, and various women's political organizations.
The picture I have sent is, I believe, her High School Graduation picture. The dress she is wearing was crocheted and pieced by her mother. I still have the dress. She worked the needlepoint picture during WWII while her only son (my Father Ward Gorman) was stationed in Egypt.
Although many of the patterns I have shared with you would be used for embroidery or counted cross stitch or needlepoint, I think she loved to knit best. She taught me when I was about 7 years old, and knitting is one of my favorite pastimes today.
She also was very interested in history, especially the French connection to our State during the time on Napoleon.
