OUR GOALS FOR 2015
We have spent most of January budgeting and calculating, which leads to the conclusion that we must speed up our publication rate.
The backlog is getting bigger and bigger, and we could refuse donated publications and not acquire books anymore, but that's against our mission.
So, getting more publications online is the best way to go. Our intentions:
In order to meet these goals, we will have to enlist professional help.
Get at least 6 or 7 publications per week published, whether as pdf, as detail images, or both.
Get at least one publication newly re-edited per week, with embroidery patterns charted, sewing patterns reconstructed, carpentry projects put in measured drawings, and other projects explained and adapted.
We rely on volunteers first and foremost, but there's things that we can't find a volunteer for, such as the ongoing job of securing our websites
and databases against hackers and people who want to use the site to spread malware.
So there's some additional goals
- Get (more) help with the things we did ourselves so far, like scanning and database entry, publicity, copyright research and programming.
- Keeping up the small donations that kept us afloat in 2014. We set an aim for 5000 USD for the entire year 2015.
- Find bigger donors for specific goals, such as re-programming our software, so we can publish more quickly.
- Add to the website the information that our cataloguing group has collected, so our publications can be found by other interested parties such as researchers.
Our current financial situation as of 3rd of February, 2015
Look at this graph
Even though we could not publish much due to other work, some people kept donating! Thank you for your continued trust and enjoy the new publications. Anybody wanting to donate, welcome! By all means!
There's a limit (currently about USD 600) to what you can donate per year and still have it count towards the small donations. It's recalculated every year and if there are a lot of donations, maybe more than once a year. If you donate more, the IRS leaves your donations out of the shortfall ratio. So, if you were planning to donate 602 USD, buy a cup of coffee and donate USD 600 ;-)
And introducing the Library to people who don't know of it yet, is very useful, since it broadens our user base and therefore our donor base.
Remember all those treasures of the past, hidden, unappreciated, in libraries, moldering on attics, thoughtlessly discarded, never to be seen and used again, unless we get them online. You're not just saving our nonprofit status, or even investing in next week's free patterns. You are connecting the past to the future.
