1835 sampler

EARLY-19TH-CENTURY-SAMPLER-BY-ANN-MIDDLEMISS-AGED-11-1835-381103939683

Small sampler, wool on linen, with heavy damage (rodents most likely, moths eat the wool only). The sampler starts off with listing William & Betty Middlemiss / Anthony & Elizabeth Middlemiss / Martha Middlemiss (probably family members). Next two alphabets and one set of numbers between lines, and a text This Piece of work my friends may have when i am dead and in my grave, Ann Middlemiss aged 11 years 1835. The text runs through the right hand margin. The bottom part is a potted flower and two baskets of roses, and one crown at the right hand side. Possibly the sampler wasn't finished.

SMALL-EARLY-19TH-CENTURY-VERSE-SAMPLER-BY-MARY-ANN-FLEET-AGED-9-c-1820-1830-381342476545

Fragment of a text sampler. It originally had a border around three sides that has been removed. What remains are three stanzas from a song exhorting young ladies not to rely on their good looks. The song is number 118 shown in a book from 1785, The Humming Bird, available in archive.org, https://archive.org/details/hummingbirdacol00birdgoog/page/n316/mode/2up The sampler text uses an f instead of the long s. The printed text shows the letters are very slightly different.
